The Crossfire League is Returning for 2026!

40k League

Since Season 2, we’ve seen an influx of new Warhammer 40k players, both to the club and to the hobby, which is fantastic. As a result, last year’s League results no longer reflect our full player base, so we’re wiping the slate clean and letting everyone sign up fresh.

We’re also streamlining our player brackets to provide a wider pool of players, easier match-ups, and more opponent variety.

As a result, we now have three player brackets:

  • Meta Sweaters
  • Mid Tier
  • Beginner

When you sign up, please select which bracket you would like to join via the club Discord. There will be a separate sign-up channel for each bracket, and once sign-up is closed, these channels will be used to help with matchmaking.

As a general guide:

  • If this is your first foray into the more competitive side of Warhammer 40K, sign up for our Beginner bracket.
  • If you understand the core mechanics and how to use some of them to your advantage, the Mid Tier bracket is for you.
  • Finally, if you are the sweatiest of sweats and measure victory by the number of tears shed by your opponent, the Meta Sweaters bracket awaits you. Some players in this bracket will be running fully optimised lists and know how to maximise every mechanic.

If you sign up for the wrong bracket, don’t worry — we can move people around once things are underway 👍

Oh, and for any competitive players thinking about signing up to a lower bracket to score an easy win…

…you will not get an easy win.
We will find you.
We will catch you.
We will make you play all of your games against the club’s best players (and we will ensure they have the rules knowledge to make sure you suffer)! 😉

League Rules

League Duration

  • Season 3 starts: 1st February
First game night: Monday 2nd February
  • Season 3 ends: 26th March
Last game night: Monday 23rd March
  • Tie-breakers (if required): Thursday 26th March
  • Winners and prizes announced: Thursday 26th March

Game Size

  • Beginner bracket: Strike Force games at 1,500 points
  • All other brackets: Strike Force games at 2,000 points

Scoring & Submission

We encourage players to score their games using dedicated apps such as Tabletop Battles.

At the end of each game, one player should upload the score for both players to the club Discord. Scores can be submitted either as a screenshot or entered manually.

League points are awarded as follows:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

League standings will be updated weekly on Discord. Winners and runners-up in each bracket will receive a prize at the end of the season.

If players are tied at the end of the season, those players will take part in a tie-breaker game.

Army List Submission

  • Beginner bracket: No army list submission required
  • All other brackets: Army lists must be submitted by 6pm on Sunday 1st February

Army lists must be submitted via Discord DM to the League Administrator.
If you need to change your list at any time, simply resend your updated list to the League Administrator.

Army List Construction & Restrictions

  • Meta Sweaters:
Your list will be locked for the duration of the event unless you suffer a defeat. After a loss, you may modify your list before your next game. This freedom cannot be banked — if you do not change your list before your next game, you forfeit the option to do so until your next defeat.
  • Mid Tier:
Faction choice is locked, but army lists are unlocked. You may make changes, though we strongly encourage keeping them minimal. This helps reduce list-tailoring and allows players to gather meaningful data and improve with their units.
  • Beginner:
Both faction choice and army lists are unlocked. This allows struggling players to try something new, though we encourage making small changes first and learning how to use the same units more effectively. Improving player skill will always be more effective in the long run than chasing the latest powerful list.
  • Legends units are not allowed this season.

Over the course of the League, rules and point values may be updated. Players should always use the most recent update, unless it is released on the day of your game.

Players directly affected by changes (for example, if a list becomes over points) may modify their list, but only to the minimum extent required to bring it back in line with League restrictions.

Help will, of course, be available to all players if you have any issues or questions 👍

Battle-Ready

  • Meta Sweaters: Battle-Ready (+10VP) is required
  • Mid Tier & Beginner: No Battle-Ready requirement

Arranging Games

Once sign-up has closed, players may arrange their own games via the club Discord.

Within their bracket, each player may play each opponent up to twice.

There is no requirement to complete your games at the Village Hall. If there is a public holiday, for example, and both players are happy to play elsewhere, that is absolutely fine.

Mission Selection

We’re dropping the previous “home” and “away” format.

Instead, each player will roll one D6 in the club Discord and consult the tables below. The first roll determines the Layout, and the second roll determines the Mission.

D6LayoutMission
1Crucible of BattleHidden Supplies
2Dawn of WarLinchpin
3Hammer and AnvilPurge the Foe
4Search and DestroyScorched Earth
5Sweeping EngagementSupply Drop
6Tipping PointTake and Hold

All games will use the 2025 Mission Deck. Copies are available in the club hall.
Twists and Challenge cards will not be used.

Terrain

There is no fixed terrain layout for this season. Players may agree on a layout, but depending on the terrain box available, it may not be possible to perfectly replicate a specific setup.

Terrain templates may help, but players should be prepared to compromise and agree on a best-fit solution. If there is any doubt, contact the League Administrator or a Committee member.

Prizes

At the end of Season 3, prizes will be awarded for:

  • 1st place in each bracket
  • Runner-up in each bracket
  • Best Opponent in each bracket
  • Best Army in each bracket
  • Wooden Spoon in each bracket

Best Army and Best Opponent are entirely subjective. Simply vote for your favourite army and favourite opponent by DMing the League Administrator (me) on Discord.

And don’t worry, the League Administrator is automatically excluded from voting, so no funny business 😁
