Kill Team

Playing Kill Team at Crossfire

Kill Team is a fast-paced skirmish game, set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Although Kill Team games are only played occasionally at the club, a lot of people have Kill Teams, know the rules and are happy to play.

As with any of our games, we’d always advise trying to arrange a game in advance to avoid disappointment. The best place to do that is via our Discord Server.

What is Warhammer Kill Team?

In Kill Team, players assemble a small team of elite warriors and engage in fast-paced skirmishes set in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000.

The game emphasizes tactical gameplay, individual character customization, and intense combat scenarios. Each player controls a handful of highly specialized units, representing various factions from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and battles take place on compact, immersive battlefields.

Kill Team offers a condensed and accessible experience compared to the larger-scale battles of Warhammer 40,000, making it an ideal choice for players seeking smaller-scale skirmishes and strategic depth.

A game of Kill Team can take between 1-2 hours and uses a small 22” x 30” board, which makes it ideal for pick-up games at the club.

How Does it Play?

You and your opponent assemble a team from the models available for your preferred faction, give them a mission & get to fighting!

You take turns moving and fighting with your operatives using custom measuring tools to measure distances, and using dice to resolve combat. After a few rounds, the game ends, and the mission objectives determine which team wins.

On top of that, many players like to play the game in campaigns where multiple games are tied together to form a coherent story, and the game has rules for upgrading your operatives between games.

A kill team can be anywhere from just 4 to 12 models depending on your faction. Most, if not all of the teams available can be made with a single box of a basic Troops choice from your chosen 40k faction. Some of the more interesting Kill Teams are specific ones made for the game, with all kinds of specialist gadgets and wargear options to make use of on the battlefield.

How to Get Started?

It’s an excellent game for beginners looking to get into tabletop miniature games or used as a stepping stone into full scale Warhammer 40k.

At Crossfire, we have a large Kill Team player base, so finding games shouldn’t be a problem. So, for any beginners interested or even 40k veterans looking to try a new game system with their existing models – don’t be shy letting one of our committee members know you’re interested

Who to Talk to About Getting Involved?

Chris

Chris has played quite a lot of Kill Team, ran a few small scale tournaments and even went as far as creating multiple, custom themed Astra Militarum teams, complete with their own regiment rules etc.

He’s a big fan of the current version of the game and is always happy to take someone through an intro game.

Curtis

Curtis got into Kill Team pretty early on in his Warhammer 40k career and found it to be a great pick up game that didn’t require the same time demands as regular 40k

He’s always willing to guide newcomers through a game and help them pick up the basics.

Stephen

Stephen has been playing Kill Team on and off alongside Warhammer 40k, mainly as a bit of a change of pace and enjoys the strategic depth of the game.

He’s always happy to play an intro game and topple the oppressors!
