A cold wind blows from the north, and brings with it discontent.
One by one, the great powers of the Old World have been visited by a hooded figure. The exact moment of appearance varies for all. Frydaal the Chainmaker, licking her wounds after being ousted from the ruins of Hollum in the Empire, receives a mysterious visitor to her tent. Selestris Cruelstrike is alerted to an apparition on the prow of her Corsair. Thane Olaf Dreffan’s feast hall, moments before raucously celebrating the recent retrieval of the Seal of Sigmar, sat silently transfixed by the figure that appeared in the centre of the room. No matter the hour, nor the day, nor the means of each harbinger’s arrival, their message was constant: A cold wind blows from the north, and brings with it opportunity.
Opportunity for your enemies.
Even now, your neighbours sharpen their blades and train their soldiers, preparing to take advantage of your weakness. If you do not act, if you do not strike first and strike hardest, then the opportunity that your enemies profit from shall be you. With those words, the visitors disappear. Immediately, advisors denounce the hooded figures as the influence of chaos, aligned to sow malcontent throughout the Old World. Whatever the figures’ origin, it matters not. As they spoke the truth. Scouts report neighbouring nations sharpening weapons, mustering forces. No general, no leader, would dare to be seen as the weakest, easiest target, and therefore all must be seen strengthening fortifications, expanding their borders.
Alliances are hastily made as men and elf and orc and beast cling to one another for protection, and for profit, each nation poised to be ready to draw first blood.
In our 2025 campaign, Crossfire’s Old World players fought with small 500 point forces to defend the Empire from encroaching Chaos invaders. In Storm of Chaos, our 2026 campaign that kicks off this March, we’re expanding to an epic scale, fighting with 2,000 point forces over the entirely of the Old World itself:

Over 25 players (so far!) have already banded together into six Grand Alliances, and will endeavour to expand their territories, work alongside (and betray) their allies, and will fight to become the dominant force in our square-based world.
Running from March until mid-June, chock-full of special events and surprises, Storm of Chaos promises to be an experience to remember.
There’s still time to enter the fray – head over to the Old World section of the club Discord to pledge your allegiance to a Grand Alliance, and prepare for war!
