End of Year Feedback Survey Highlights

As 2024 came to a close, we asked you all to take part in our End of Year Survey, giving us your thoughts on the club, how it’s been doing and how we can make it even better!

We’re thrilled to share the results of the survey and how our members think we’re doing. Your feedback offers us invaluable insights into your experiences, preferences, and suggestions, guiding us to improve the club and make it even better for our community.

Here’s a summary of the highlights and the changes inspired by your feedback.

A Warm Welcome for All!

We’re proud to see so many of you describe your first visits to the club as welcoming and enjoyable.

There was a lot of positive feedback about the atmosphere and how people felt about their first visit to the club:

  • “The community was incredibly friendly and eager to help”,
  • “I felt at home almost immediately,”
  • “It was pretty awesome! People were interested in what I was doing, hobby wise, as well as what brought me there and what I was doing in my life outside the club.”
  • “Amazing, everyone friendly and always happy to help and up for showing new players how to play games.”

One of the most important things for us starting the club was to create a positive, welcoming environment, where folks can relax, make new friends and have fun. It’s great to see that continues to be realised two years after starting and as a result we have a fantastic community built around the club. A massive thanks to all of you who embody this spirit and make the club an excellent place to hang out.

Making it Easier for New Members

Some members suggested creating beginner-friendly game nights or pairing new players with others of similar experience.

We do already take steps to try and help folks learn the game systems they want to play and run intro games or pair them up with someone of a similar level where possible. However, we thought we could do more, especially with the recent influx of new Warhammer 40k players. One of the things we are doing to help with this is adding a Beginner League to our Warhammer 40k League this year. This should help make it easier to arrange and play games against people at a similar level and there is less focus on being competitive. It’s more about learning the game and your army.

We might also look into some newbie focused events for some different systems in the future.

Another suggestion was to have some Club Rule Books for more commonly played games. We already have a few of these but will make them more prominent & available to everyone and likely expanding the collection as well.

Weekly Gaming Nights: Creative Events & Memorable Experiences

You’ve all expressed your enthusiasm for the gaming nights, campaigns, and tournaments we’ve hosted in 2024. Events like the Colosseum tournament and 40k Narrative Campaign were especially popular for their creativity and sense of camaraderie they fostered.

There was also great feedback for the Warhammer Old World Campaign and Kris’ Star Trek Campaign. Great job to everyone involved in running those! If you want to run a campaign or event or have an idea that you’d like to float, do raise it to the Committee. The Colosseum Tournament itself came about because Alex suggested we could do something like it.

These were some of our favourite comments on the events from last year:

  • “I liked that it was light hearted fun with everyone helping each other out and learning the rules”,
  • “Well organised and more leaning towards having fun than winning.”
  • “I’m a massive Trekky, so the Star Trek campaign was perfect for me. Kris done an excellent job in running it.”
  • “The atmosphere was great, everyone was friendly and the quality and amount of terrain produced for the colosseum was incredible.”
  • “It’s just nice to play with people you can call friends. It’s been a year and a bit since we started and it genuinely feels like I’ve gotten to know so many of you.”
  • “Enjoyed playing with proper scenery”

We’re thrilled to hear many of you enjoyed the quality of our terrain and the overall atmosphere! We try and keep ourselves to a high standard and want to maintain that moving forward!

Additionally, we’re looking into hosting more one-day themed events, maybe also looking at introducing things such as painting and modelling competitions.

An Improved Tuckshop!

We’ve heard your requests! Based on the feedback, we’ve started stocking more snacks and energy drinks, including some diet options. We’ve also committed to restocking more frequently so you can enjoy a better selection on club nights.

If you have any specific suggestions do feel free to air them to Richard, or indeed drop them in the Suggestions channel on Discord.

Challenges and Opportunities

While most of you find the club convenient and accessible, a couple key areas for improvement were noted. Parking remains a challenge at our current venue, particularly during busy Thursdays. This was exacerbated towards the tail end of 2024 due to the Co-op’s car park not being available, along with the abandoned car in the Village Hall’s car park taking up 2 spaces. Both of these issues have now been resolved but we are aware that parking can still be a bit problematic.

Childcare and timing conflicts occasionally prevent some members from attending as often as they’d like. We’re taking these concerns seriously as we plan for the club’s future, including exploring potential larger or alternative venues.

What Makes Crossfire Stands Out?

When asked what sets Crossfire apart from other clubs, the overwhelming response was our incredible community spirit. Members consistently highlighted the club’s welcoming atmosphere, high-quality terrain, and dedicated committee. But the truth is, Crossfire is what it is because of you, our fantastic members. We appreciate every one of you!

Here’s what some of you had to say:

  • “Much more attendance and a significantly better standard of terrain and gaming materials.”
  • “The crowd and general atmosphere. Can’t actually visualise the club if it didn’t have such an open and welcoming attitude.”
  • “The space and number of people to play with”
  • “The committee, and the effort they all put into the club, events, terrain and welcoming new members”
  • “It feels like members of CGC are extremely helpful, welcoming, have humour and are eager to assist in any way possible.”
  • “The variety of quality terrain and willingness of committee to listen to members”
  • “More active committee. Better terrain. Better events. Easier to find games. Thriving social group.”
  • “I’ve not been to any other clubs to compare but this one has been great”

How Crossfire is Transforming Your Gaming Journey

We asked how being part of Crossfire Gaming Club has impacted your gaming experiences, and the responses were truly heart-warming. Hearing how the club has enriched your hobby, fostered new friendships, and created a supportive community makes all the effort we put into running it completely worthwhile.

Here are just a few of the amazing things you shared:

  • “I went from a first game to be able to help a few beginners”
  • “I’d have definitely stopped with my hobby stuff a long time ago had I not had the community there to support.”
  • “The community pushes and helps each other”
  • “I don’t think it has increased my skills but I have been having fun finding out I am not as bad as I thought.”
  • “Met a much broader range of players – some of whom are much better – and attending events helps you try something new and develop a better understanding. All while having good fun 👍”
  • “I haven’t really played in a club before, neither played Warhammer 40k (my main game) since 5th edition, so joining and playing at the club helped a lot.”
  • “It’s allowed me to play gaming systems you would normally struggle to get a game of.”
  • “It has helped me learn 40k and improved my painting and hobbying.”

What Makes Crossfire Special: In Your Own Words

  • “Best tabletop club in Scotland by a mile!”

Looking Ahead

2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for the Club. Here’s what’s on the horizon:

Expanding Game System Options

Based on suggestions, we’ll continue exploring interest in games like Age of Sigmar, Kill Team, Bolt Action, Warcry, Blood Bowl, Mordheim, and Trench Crusade.

The club has already commissioned one of each of the existing warbands for Trench Crusade, so people can try it out!

Mordheim has a campaign starting next week, which the club is in the middle of creating some great ruined terrain for! Along with cobblestone mats, these should help create some great close quarter skirmishes amongst the city ruins.

Club Branded Merch

One thing that a few people raised is that they’d like some more club branded merchandise. Most notably, gaming accessories. We are currently looking into this by getting more club branded dice and dice trays and will look at other things.

We are also going to do another hoodie order, so if you missed out last time now’s your chance to grab one!

Future Venue Plans

We asked a few questions about venue changes. Nothing is currently in the works, our current venue does us well enough, although we are aware that it is starting to become a bit of a squeeze, parking could be better and the inability to book it for weekends is really hampering us.

The Committee are currently working out a more long-term plan and looking at potential options but we will take all of the feedback on board.

Thank You for Your Support

To everyone who contributed to the survey, a massive thank you for sharing your thoughts. Crossfire Gaming Club thrives because of its incredible community. We’re excited to take your feedback and use it to create even more unforgettable gaming experiences in the year ahead.

Let’s make 2025 our best year yet, see you at the tables!
