We were invited by the organisers of the World Science Fiction Convention to attend the event in Glasgow at the SEC.
What is Worldcon?
The 82nd World Science Fiction Convention, commonly known as Glasgow Worldcon, is set to be one of the most exciting events in the 2024 sci-fi and fantasy calendar. The convention gathers enthusiasts, creators, and professionals from across the globe to celebrate all things science fiction. Attendees can look forward to lots of activities, including panel discussions, engaging workshops, author readings and more.
We’d like to say thanks to Jennes Mitchell from Sky News, who came and spoke to us and included us in her article about Worldcon, detailing a few of the exhibitors that are attending the convention, well worth a read!
What’s Crossfire Doing at Worldcon?
We’re excited to be representing tabletop wargaming in Scotland, hosting a couple of participation games throughout the event. These will be running from Thursday to Monday.
Our Lite-take on Necromunda
Attendees can drop in at any time to join our ever-popular Bounty Hunter Brawl, where a group of Bounty Hunters clash in an epic battle to collect coins. These coins are the key to unlocking our treasure chest, which is overflowing with sweet treats!
Here’s a closer look at our Underhive table setup, just waiting for the doors to open and for people to come along and play!
Our Bounty Hunters are ever ready to get stuck into the action and start claiming loot!
Bringing Infinity to Worldcon
Additionally, Nicky will be running introductory games of Infinity, from Corvus Belli at the convention. As a passionate fan of the game system, he’s eager to guide newcomers through the basics and introduce them to the thrilling world of sci-fi skirmish games. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a curious beginner, there’s plenty of fun to be had!
Where to Find Us at Worldcon?
We are in the middle of Hall 4, right under the giant World Science Fiction Society banner hanging from the roof, which acts as a great marker.
Other Things to See
There is a lot on at Worldcon between fan tables, art shows, costume masquerades, readings, panel discussions and more. A few things that caught our notice (and were in the immediate vicinity) were the Adam West and Suicide Squad Batmobiles at the entrance to Hall 4.
Dumbarton Wargames Club have set up a display showing off a beautiful Bloodbowl pitch and a great looking army of *cough* not-Emperor’s Children *cough* Space Marines.
We also want to give a shout out to our convention neighbours. The Gravitational Waves folks, who have some really interesting and interactive examples of gravitational waves, as well as lots of interesting insights, well worth a quick chat! Although, we do think they might be somewhat responsible for the high number of Bounty Hunters in our games that seem to fall off of buildings to their demise.
Some More Cool Stuff we Saw
Attending Worldcon?
If you’re attending the convention, be sure to stop by Hall 4 and say hello! Whether you’re an experienced wargamer or just curious to give it a try, local to the area or visiting from afar, everyone is welcome to join in the fun at our tables. We look forward to seeing you over the weekend!
