Last week the club was fortunate enough to attend Claymore, a wargaming convention in Edinburgh run by SESWC (South East Scotland Wargaming Club). We had been invited along by one of their organisers, Derek when we attended Carronade back in May and were more than happy to get involved.
Bounty Hunter Brawl at Claymore
This was our first time attending Claymore, which is hosted in Edinburgh College’s Granton Campus. We took along our Bounty Hunter Brawl game, where 8 Bounty Hunters battle it out over loot. Which proved popular as ever.
The aim of the game was to collect loot tokens, while fighting off other Bounty Hunters. As an added incentive, were also giving out copies of our Bounty Hunters to people that successfully collected 3 loot tokens.
What Else Was There to See?
Claymore is pretty focused on wargames, as such there is a lot of clubs and groups running participation games. Covering everything from WW2, other historicals, fantasy and sci-fi.
Similar to Carronade, Claymore attracts a good selection of traders selling dice, miniatures, terrain, tokens, paints, hobby supplies and more! There’s also an ever rotating flea market with the option of grabbing a quick bargain.
Our Favourite Things
Between the Underhive shootouts and people falling off walkways in our own game, a couple of the lads managed to take a wee wander around and see other games, there were plenty of large historical games on display that looked great.
We were set up next to the guys from G3, who won the Best Participation game this year with their game XtremeG Racing. A massive well done guys!
We also loved FDWC‘s setup with a 15mm WW2 Normandy game, which looked really impressive, with loads of tiny tanks!
Convention Season
Having just attended Claymore last week, this weekend we are at the Glasgow Worldcon Sci-fi Convention at the SEC in Glasgow, running our Bounty Hunter Brawl and some Infinity. If you are attending, do drop past and say hi, maybe even jump into a game. We will be in hall 4 under the World Science Fiction Society banner.
In September, we will be off to Tabletop Scotland, although we’re not yet sure if we will be exhibiting, it’ll depend on who’s free and if we’d rather do a club outing to play different games.
A Tribute to Derek
We were deeply saddened to learn that Derek Hodge, our main contact and one of the key organizers for Claymore, passed away the day before the event. Derek played a crucial role in making the convention run smoothly and was a familiar and friendly face at many similar events. We always enjoyed our conversations with him, and his presence will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt condolences and thoughts are with his family and close friends during this difficult time.
The club’s Fabricator General, Lord of the Forge and all-round heretic 🙂
