Celebrating National Lottery Grant Success
We are excited to officially announce that Crossfire Gaming Club, based in Cumbernauld, has successfully secured £19,118 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund. This grant will support our thriving gaming community, help us expand, and allow us to continue providing a fantastic space for people to socialise.
This marks the second time in two years, that we have successfully secured funding for the club! Having spoken with the representatives from The National Lottery, they were delighted to see what we have achieved following our first application and want to help empower us to do more!
Fantastic Growth for a New Wargaming Club
Since we last got funding, we have grown substantially, and are now one of the largest and most active wargaming clubs in Scotland! Not bad considering we didn’t exist 2 years ago!
Our goal has always been to create the best possible club, and we’ve dedicated ourselves to building a thriving community that is welcoming to new players. We’ve fostered an environment where there’s always someone ready to help you learn, find the right game system, and teach you the rules. With a wide range of game systems and board games to choose from, an active online and in-person community, and some of the best gaming tables in Scotland, there’s something for everyone. We also host regular events, including campaigns, tournaments, and leagues, ensuring there’s always something exciting to take part in.
For those interested, here’s a look at our growth since the club’s launch in February 2023 with just 16 attendees. Today, a “quiet night” means fewer than 45 attendees and less than 20 games being played on a typical Thursday evening.
As part of the club’s growth, we’ve expanded to running two nights a week. Our ever-popular Thursdays continue to thrive, and we’ve introduced some (currently) quieter gaming sessions on Mondays as well.
Plans for the Future
This incredible grant marks a major milestone for our club, enabling us to strengthen the gaming community we’ve been building and take it to new heights.
The funding will allow us to invest in a variety of exciting initiatives that will benefit both our current members and the wider community. Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come:
- Investment in more Game Systems: We’ll be expanding our library of game systems, offering more variety to cater to different interests. Whether you’re into tabletop wargames, board games, or role-playing games, we’ll have something for everyone. Part of this includes more intro game sets, allowing people to try different systems without needing to own an army/faction.
- Terrain Development: With access to 3D printing technology and custom-made terrain production, we’re planning to significantly enhance the immersive experience at our gaming tables. Expect more detailed and diverse landscapes for your battles! We’re already putting the work in on multiple new terrain sets, some of which have already arrived at the club (such as our great new jungle terrain).
- More Social Events: We believe in the power of community, and with this grant, we can host more social events to bring people together. These gatherings will be a great way to make new friends, share ideas, and foster camaraderie within the gaming world. it also allows us to do things outside of tabletop games, there are a few ideas in the works, more on this later.
- Expanded Gaming Events: We’re eager to organise larger and more frequent gaming events. Whether you’re competing in tournaments or attending casual game nights, there will be plenty of opportunities to play, learn, and grow as a gamer.
This grant is a game-changer, and we can’t wait to see how these developments will help Crossfire Gaming Club continue to grow as a welcoming, inclusive space for all gamers.
From all of us on the Committee, we want to send a massive Thank you to The National Lottery and it’s players for supporting our vision, and to our ever growing community for making this possible! You all contribute to making Crossfire an excellent community to be part of! There’s plenty of Exciting times ahead and we’re just getting started.
The club’s Fabricator General, Lord of the Forge and all-round heretic 🙂
